DREAM LAWN CORE AERATION
Core aeration is perhaps the best investment you can make to improve your soil and lawn. Aerating is the process of mechanically pulling soil cores (plugs) from the lawn and depositing them on the surface. The holes created become openings that allow air and
water to enter the soil. In general, two to three inch deep plugs are ideal. If done properly there will be approximately 8-10 plugs pulled per square foot.
Benefits
- Relieves soil compaction
- Reduces thatch
- Improves drainage
- Improves root penetration
- Promotes denser turf coverage
- Increase air movement
TIMING
Core aerating is best performed when adequate cores can be pulled.
Spring and fall are the best times to aerate as rain levels are higher and soils are moist. However, aeration can be done anytime that soils are moist enough to get a full plug and grass is actively growing. Goft courses will aerate 4 or more times a year.
On a year is recommended, twice a year is optimal for poor soils or compacted lawns.
GRASS ESTABLISHMENT
Core aeration, prior to over seeding or top-dressing, provides superior results for grass establishment and soil improvement.
